New Blog-- The Integrated Tiny House

This is a new blog about a project I'm hoping to embark on. I know there are currently people building very sustainable "normal-sized" houses, there is a growing awareness of permaculture and a small (no pun intended) tiny house movement, I'd like to combine all three and build:

The Integrated Tiny House

I'll need to do a little fundraising to get the project off the ground, but once it gets a little momentum I believe I have all of the resources to accomplish a proof-of-concept house. This would not just be intended to be a one-shot house for one family to live in, but would also serve as a teaching institution about the different processes involved in the structure and surrounding landscape.

You'll want to check out Llyod Kahn's blog. He's author of many amazing books on sustainable, DIY building and he's currently half way through a near identical project to document tiny houses:

I love tiny houses - Mr Chiots and I live in a small (not tiny) house. We always say if we build someday it will be a cottage smaller than the one we live in and people say "How will you fit, your house now is small". But the truth is we could get by with about half the space. Most people don't realize that with a smaller home come smaller bills, less heating/cooling, less electric. And not to mention less time for cleaning/maintenance!

Cheers to you for keeping it small!

I have no idea what all of these comments are about birds on wire on a post about tiny houses. I assume you're talking about quail? If so... my quail aren't on wire, though I did have them in wire pens at first. They're in a big aviary (on the ground), with plenty of natural features.

Hi Rachel, I attended your backyard chicken class last night, and then in completely unrelated circumstances a friend recommended I check out your blog because I'm interested in aquaponics, urban farming, and such. Who knew you were also into tiny houses. Some friends and I have been researching various sustainable building practices and I plan to build tiny homes at first in my backyard to perfect my methods, and then elsewhere such as a crisis intervention house I volunteer with. I look forward to hearing more about how your project has been going!
